It was 1954 and 12-year-old Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.’s bike was just stolen outside the Columbia Auditorium in Louisville, Kentucky. Clay found a cop in the gym and declared to him he’d "whup" the thief if he ever found him. The officer gave Clay some advice: you’d better learn to box first.
